In the original case that was filed in 2019, Gibson won when the jury ruled that Dean infringed on Gibson’s Flying V, Explorer and SG body shapes as well as the Dove Wing Headstock and the Hummingbird acoustic. Dean was legally declared a counterfeiter.
In 2022, Dean appealed. This summer, The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict and said the case should be retried.
Dean’s V and Z models are still being made.
As the battle goes on, those may be collectible some day.
