Collectible Pairs

A friend from the 1970s had a brother that traveled with a very popular regional band, “The Pott County Pork and Bean Band.” I saw them at The Boiler Room in The River Quay in 1976, that was Kansas City’s “Old Town.” They were phenomenal. Tragically, the brother died and my friend inherited a pair of Fenders. One was a six string and was was a bass. Perfectly matched, including serial numbers. I remember thinking they should never be separated.

Many players keep a Fender Strat and a Fender Tele as their inseparable pair. Some have paired six and twelve string acoustics.

As a concept, collectible pairs is interesting, but rarely seen in the real world. That is about to change.

Steve Scorfina, future member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and co-founder of REO Speed Wagon will bring some pairs of vintage instruments to the KC Guitar Show in Ward Parkway on October 11-12, 2025. He is a true collector which means he may offer to buy what you bring to the show. All of Steve’s rare guitars will be for sale including The Bluebird Americana.
