Fender launched the Stratocaster in 1954. That year is very collectible, but many say it was too much of a work in progress. The debate goes on of what vintage Strat is the best year. Everyone has a valid point.
’57 has a maple neck which gives it a brighter, snappier sound than Strats from 1962, which many say is the best year. The ’57 neck had a “V” profile. Notably, Claptan’s “Black” had a ’57 neck. That seems like a strong endorsement, doesn’t it?
By ’58 and ’59, Fender moved to a more rounded neck.
The ’57 Strat boasts an alder wood body. The years before that were ash and had a different tone.
The 1957 Strat weighs in at a little over 6 1/2 lbs.
You can see and buy it at the KC Guitar Show.
